TED challenges the advertising world

October 03, 2010

TED challenges the advertising world

Chris Andersen, TED curator, recently asked the marketing world a very important question:  “If advertising is so great, then why is it largely failing on the web today?”

In order to elevate our creative minds, TED has created the Ads Worth Spreading Challenge which in his words is: ‘an open invitation to the global ad community to reinvent, inspire and engage audiences with a new definition of what advertising can mean in the digital age.’

TED’s motto is “ideas worth spreading” and with this challenge we are promoted  to think of ways that advertising CAN inspire and motivate beneficial action, beyond sole consumption.
According to Chris Andersen: ‘We want to encourage development of ads-with-a-difference. Ads that engage our audience authentically, intelligently, delightfully. Ads that people will want to share because, like the rest of TED, they encapsulate ideas worth spreading."

The 10 best campaigns selected by a panel of judges will premier at TED2011 from February 28th through March 4th, 2011, and will be featured on TED.com for free for one week in March.
